Teacher Biography
“The object of teaching a child is to enable him to get along without his teacher.” -Elbert Hubbard
I believe that the purpose of education is to inspire children to learn and gain knowledge that will help them become independent individuals capable of lifelong success. I believe that each child has the ability to flourish when given a safe, structured, and nurturing environment. I would like my students to achieve a sense of acceptance, confidence, and integrity that will enable them to reach their full potential.
Classroom Notes
This semester, students will be focusing on becoming better readers. I had the opportunity to attend ACRI training over the summer. ACRI is a state-wide adolescent literacy intervention based on fifty years of state-of-the-art literacy research, created and studied by Dr. Sharon Russell through the University of Maryland and the University of Michigan. ACRI focuses on academic literacy and critical thinking with text.
What does this mean for your student? It means that your student is taking a closer look and analyzing the words, sentences, and paragraphs for deeper understanding and meaning of the text as a whole.
